Happy New Year. The children have come back to school with a very positive attitude to learning and already I have been pleased to see that they are engrossed in topics and eager to share what they have learned.
To continue to promote the wellbeing of children and following on from the work that was done with Anti bullying, we have invested in a Personal, Social, Health and Educational (PSHE) programme to ensure the children develop skills and strategies to improve their wellbeing in a broad range of situations. The programme is called Jigsaw and will be beginning on Monday next week. I am sure your children will be able to talk to you about it – please ask them.
I am hoping that we will not have any snow this winter, but if we do I would like to be as prepared as possible and try as hard as I can to keep the school open. To be able to do this, a path from the front gate to the back door needs to be cleared and also the car park. We have snow shovels and salt in school and some members of staff do help to clear paths but it would be really helpful if parents could give a little of their time before 8.15am to ensure that the paths are clear. Just 15 minutes would make a difference. It would be nice if there was a list of people we could call from 7:30a.m. to help us. If you would be willing to do this could you give your name and contact details to the school office please. If enough help is not forthcoming, sadly the school will have to be closed.
There is a new Hertfordshire County Council closure notification system put in place in December and we need to pass the details of this on to you.
- Log on to www.hertfordshire.gov.uk
- Enter “severe weather” in the search bar
- Select Emergency School Closures
- Click on the link “Online School Closure Reporting System”
You can then read to see whether our school is open or closed. This site is updated every 10 minutes.
We will also send an e-mail message through School Comms for those parents registered for this or a text message for those who do not have an e-mail account (this is dependent on internet access being accessible remotely).
Also the following arrangements have been made with local radio stations should we be advised to close the school:-
- BoB FM (106.7 FM or 106.9 FM)
- BBC Three Counties Radio (103.8 FM and 92.1FM or 1161MW or 630 MW)
- Heart (96.6 FM)
A newsletter will follow early next week with the term dates and activities that have been planned.
